AI for Designers

Faster moodboards, sharper briefs, more iterations — without losing the craft.

No credit card · all four major AI models in one place

Designers tend to think AI is either coming for their job or beneath their craft. It is neither. Used well, AI compresses the parts that have always slowed designers down — briefs, research, copy, presentation decks — so more hours go into the actual design.

Here is how working designers use AI in 2026.

What AI does for designers

Use case 1

Turn a vague brief into a workable one

Paste the client's email. AI extracts the actual brief and the open questions.

Try this prompt

Here is a vague brief from a client. Extract: the project type, the audience, the goal, the success criteria, the constraints, and any contradictions. List the 5 most important questions to clarify before starting.
Use case 2

Generate a moodboard direction

Describe the brand and audience. AI proposes 3 stylistic directions with reference brands.

Try this prompt

Suggest 3 distinct design directions for [brand description]. For each: a one-line philosophy, 3 reference brands or designers, the typography family, the colour family, the photography style, and the one risk.
Use case 3

Write copy for the design — before the copywriter is hired

Placeholder copy that's actually decent and not 'lorem ipsum'.

Try this prompt

Write placeholder copy for a [page type] for [brand description]. Sections: hero (headline + sub), 3 feature blocks (headline + 30 words each), one testimonial style, one CTA. Voice: confident, warm, specific. This is real copy quality, not lorem ipsum.
Use case 4

Build a presentation deck from your figjam

Dump the reasoning. AI structures the deck.

Try this prompt

I have these notes for a design review with a client. Turn them into a 12-slide deck outline: title, problem statement, audience insight, our approach, 3 directions explored, the recommended one with rationale, the open questions, next steps. Notes: [paste]
Use case 5

Critique your own work as someone else would

Describe the design. AI plays an art director or sceptical client.

Try this prompt

Critique this design as an experienced art director. I'm showing [description, or paste reference]. Tell me: what works, what doesn't, what feels expected, what feels fresh, and what I'd defend versus what I'd change.

The best AI model for designers

Claude for copy and feedback, ChatGPT for structure and decks

Claude writes the most readable design copy and the most useful critique. ChatGPT handles structured outputs (decks, brief docs, scope) faster. MultipleChat gives you both in one place — and adds image-generation models for moodboard sketching.

What you might be worried about

Will AI replace designers?

AI is replacing the lowest tier of asset-production work — generic logos, stock-style illustrations, basic mockups. Senior design, taste, craft and accountability are not replaceable. The designers who use AI well do the same craft, faster.

Is AI imagery legal to use commercially?

Depends on the tool and the jurisdiction. Major image models offer commercial-use licences for paid plans; check the specific terms. Don't put AI imagery on a public campaign without checking the licence and the training-data position.

What about designers' own work being scraped?

Real concern. Honest answer: most image models trained on broad scrapes. Use opt-out where available (Have I Been Trained?). Push for licensing models from the tools you pay for.

How to start in the next 10 minutes

1

Open MultipleChat at multiplechat.ai. Image generation is included.

2

Take your current brief. Run it through the 'turn vague brief' prompt.

3

Use AI for the writing around the design — brief, deck, copy.

4

Keep the design craft. Time you saved goes into the part that matters.

FAQ for designers

Best AI image tool?

Midjourney for stylised, DALL·E 3 for fast and prompt-faithful, Imagen 3 for photorealism, Stable Diffusion for control. MultipleChat connects to several of them.

Will clients want AI designs cheaper?

Some will try. Move them up the value ladder — strategy, brand, craft. AI doesn't replicate those.

Will AI replace junior designers?

The work juniors used to do for free (cleanup, asset production) is being absorbed. Juniors who learn AI become senior faster.

Plagiarism risk?

Image models can occasionally produce very recognisable references. Always check by visual search before publishing commercial work.
