No credit card · all four major AI models in one place
Writers have the strongest reaction to AI of any profession — both excited and afraid, sometimes in the same sentence. The honest answer is that AI is excellent at the parts of writing you do not love: research synthesis, structural drafts, copyediting, and grinding out functional first passes.
It is not good — yet — at the parts that make you a writer: a distinctive voice, an unexpected angle, the choice of what to leave out. Used well, AI handles the chores so you spend more time on the craft.

Claude (with ChatGPT as a check)
Claude has the strongest sense of voice and the smallest tendency to drift into AI-flavoured cliché. ChatGPT is faster at structural work. Most experienced writers run both in MultipleChat and pick the one they prefer per task.
Use it inside MultipleChatAI will replace writers who write generic content. It will not replace writers with a voice, a beat, or a relationship with their audience — those compound advantages AI has no path to.
Yes, if you publish AI's first draft. No, if you use it for chores and edit ruthlessly. The give-away phrases — 'in today's fast-paced world', 'navigating the complexities of' — are easy to spot once you're looking.
Conventions are still forming. Some publications require it; some don't. If AI was a tool (research, editing), most editors don't care. If AI wrote the prose, disclosure is becoming standard.

Keep using AI only where it doesn't dilute the work. That line shifts as you practise.
Only if you let it. Write, then run AI as a copy-edit pass. The style comes from you.
All the major models can do fiction; Claude is widely seen as the most readable. The plot work is still yours — AI is a co-writer at best.
AI doesn't quote sources by default. If it produces a striking phrase, run it through a search engine before publishing. For research, ask AI to cite — and verify every citation.
Outline → AI expands sections → you rewrite section by section. Keep the AI close enough to be useful, far enough not to dictate.
