Model Card

A short standardized document that reports a model's intended use, performance across groups, and limitations — to encourage transparent, responsible release.

Mitchell et al. (2019) proposed model cards: concise documents that accompany a released model and report its intended uses, training data, evaluation across demographic or other relevant groups, and known limitations. The goal is to reduce misuse by making a model's strengths and blind spots explicit.

Model cards are now common practice for major model releases and are referenced in emerging AI governance frameworks.
