Choose where your AI runs

Cloud models. Local models.
You decide.

The app lives on your computer. Where the model runs is up to you.

01 / Bring your own API key

The models you want.
Connected directly.

Add an API key from OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral or another supported provider. Choose a default model and change it for each workspace.

  • Your provider bills your API usage directly.
  • Chats and keys are stored on your computer.
  • Prompts and relevant file passages go to your chosen provider.
02 / Run a local model

The model runs
on your machine.

Connect Ollama or LM Studio to use a model on your own hardware. Local chat and document indexing can work without a cloud provider.

  • No cloud API key required for local models.
  • No per-token provider fees for local inference.
  • 16 GB RAM or more recommended; needs vary by model.

Local AI and cloud AI are different: cloud requests leave your computer. Local workflows can run offline after setup; a licensed copy checks in online at least every 14 days.

Before you download

AI for Mac: your questions.

Does this AI app work on Intel Macs?

The current Mac download supports Apple Silicon only: M1 or newer, with macOS 13 Ventura or later. It does not support Intel Macs.

How much space does the Mac app need?

Version 2.0.0 is about 800 MB to download and about 2.5 GB installed. Local models require additional storage and memory. If you plan to run models locally, 16 GB RAM or more is recommended; requirements vary by model.

Can I use my Mac without a cloud API key?

Yes, if you configure a local model through Ollama or LM Studio. The model runs on your Mac. You still need an app license after the trial and an online license check-in at least every 14 days.

What does bring your own API key mean?

Create an API key with a supported provider and add it in Settings → AI Providers → LLM. The app connects directly to that provider using your key. API usage is billed to your provider account separately from the app license.

Where are my chats and API keys stored?

Your chat history, documents, local document index and API keys are stored on your computer. When you choose a cloud model, your prompt and any relevant document passages are sent to that provider under its terms. No MultipleChat server sits between your app and the model provider.

Can I use a local AI model instead of an API key?

Yes. Connect a local model through Ollama or LM Studio. Local chat and document indexing can run on your computer without cloud API usage charges. Model performance depends on your hardware. A licensed copy needs an online check-in at least every 14 days; web search and cloud models also need an internet connection.

How much does the desktop app cost?

Try the app for 24 hours. The trial starts when you click Start trial, so prepare your API key or local model first. A license costs $250 as a one-time purchase. Cloud API usage is charged separately by your provider. Local models use your own hardware without per-token provider fees.

Does the desktop license include the web subscription?

No. MultipleChat AI Desktop is a separate, single-user product using your own API keys or local models. The web subscription and web-only features, including the Studios and AI Collaboration, are separate.

How do I activate my license?

Your license key is emailed to the address you use at checkout. Enter it under Settings → License. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder or contact [email protected].
