An API key connects your desktop app to your provider account. You choose the provider and model. MultipleChat gives you a place to use them on your Mac or PC.
Your conversations, documents and API keys are stored locally. Open the desktop app, choose a workspace, and pick up where you left off.
With a cloud model, requests go to the provider you configure. Your prompt and relevant document passages leave your computer so that the model can answer.
Use a key issued by the provider you select. A chat subscription login is not an API key.

API access and charges depend on your provider's terms and account. The $250 desktop license is separate from API usage. You can also connect a local model without a cloud API key.
Getting started
Four steps to connect your AI. Have your provider key and any required API credit ready before you start the 24-hour trial.
Have your API key or local model ready before clicking Start trial. Your 24 hours begin at that point. A consumer AI subscription does not automatically include API credit.
Install MultipleChat on your Mac or Windows PC. Check the platform requirements below before downloading.
Open Settings → AI Providers → LLM. Select the provider that issued your API key, paste the key into the app, and save your settings.
Select a model available to your provider account. Use it as your default, or choose a different model for a particular workspace.
Create a workspace and send your first message. The app sends the request to your chosen provider, which bills your API account for usage.

It is an application installed on your computer that gives you an interface for chatting with AI models. With MultipleChat, you connect your own provider API keys or local models. The desktop app stores your chat history locally.
Yes. You can configure supported providers and choose a default model, then override it for individual workspaces. Each cloud provider uses its own API key and bills its own usage.
A consumer chat subscription does not automatically include API credit. Your desktop app license and your provider's API billing are separate. Check that your API account has access to the model you select.
Check that the selected provider issued the key, the key is active, API billing or credit is available, and your account can access the selected model. Cloud providers also require an internet connection. Never send your API key to support.
Create an API key with a supported provider and add it in Settings → AI Providers → LLM. The app connects directly to that provider using your key. API usage is billed to your provider account separately from the app license.
Your chat history, documents, local document index and API keys are stored on your computer. When you choose a cloud model, your prompt and any relevant document passages are sent to that provider under its terms. No MultipleChat server sits between your app and the model provider.
Yes. Connect a local model through Ollama or LM Studio. Local chat and document indexing can run on your computer without cloud API usage charges. Model performance depends on your hardware. A licensed copy needs an online check-in at least every 14 days; web search and cloud models also need an internet connection.
Try the app for 24 hours. The trial starts when you click Start trial, so prepare your API key or local model first. A license costs $250 as a one-time purchase. Cloud API usage is charged separately by your provider. Local models use your own hardware without per-token provider fees.
No. MultipleChat AI Desktop is a separate, single-user product using your own API keys or local models. The web subscription and web-only features, including the Studios and AI Collaboration, are separate.
Your license key is emailed to the address you use at checkout. Enter it under Settings → License. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder or contact [email protected].
